  22. SYMPTOMS:
  23.  
  24. When sending a print job to a Personal NetWare (PNW) network printer,
  25. the following message is returned:
  26.  
  27.      NETc-1.0-7D01: Write File -- Invalid DOS Function.
  28.      File (filename) could not be printed to (printer name).
  29.  
  30. Different messages may be returned depending on the application from
  31. which the user is trying to print.  WordPerfect for Windows returns
  32. "Error Initializing Output Device".  Windows Write returns "Cannot
  33. Print...".  Other applications appear to send the print job with no
  34. error message returned.  However, the print job never makes it to the
  35. network printer queue.

  37. CAUSES:
  38.  
  39. There are 2 possible causes:
  40.  
  41. 1.  The network printer queue is full.
  42. 2.  The user does not have rights to use this network printer.
  43.  
  44. SOLUTIONS:
  45.  
  46. There are 2 possible solutions:
  47.  
  48. 1.  Remove print jobs from the printer queue.  To do this:
  49.   
  50.      1a.  Login to the network as user SUPERVISOR.
  51.      1b.  Launch the NET utility.
  52.      1c.  Go into Printing, Select Print Queue, highlight the printer
  53.           and press <enter>.
  54.      1d.  You should see 100+ print jobs in the queue. If the Status
  55.           of the jobs is HOLDING, then either take the jobs off of
  56.           hold by highlight the job and pressing <enter>, then remove
  57.           the check from Job hold, indefinite, or delete the job by
  58.           highlighting the job and pressing <delete>.
  59.           
  60.      In the case where the print jobs are on hold, and if the Size of
  61.      the print jobs is 0, then the NET CAPTURE wait time needs to be
  62.      increased, i.e:
  63.  
  64.           NET CAPTURE LPT1 (printer name) W=60
  65.  
  66.      The above capture statement will set the wait time to 60
  67.      seconds. The default wait if capturing from DOS is 10 seconds.
  68.  
  69.      If the Status of the jobs is READY, then the jobs are waiting to
  70.      be printed.  In this case, if the printer is in the process of
  71.      printing, then wait for the jobs to be printed.  If the printer
  72.      is not printing, then check the printer for paper or other error
  73.      states.

  75. 2.  If the user does not have access rights to use this network
  76. printer, then the issue needs to be referred to the network
  77. administrator.  If the network administrator feels the user should
  78. have access to the network printer then the network administrator
  79. should:
  80.   
  81.      2a.  Login as SUPERVISOR.
  82.      2b.  Launch NET ADMIN.
  83.      2c.  Go into View, Shared Printers, and open the properties for
  84.           the printer.
  85.      2d.  Go into User Rights and Add the user to the Users With
  86.           Explicit Rights list.
